New fuel pump weep hole plugged

I replaced my fuel pump for the third time (over 18 years) due to motor oil leaking out of the weep hole. I noticed the new fuel pump has a plug screwed into the weep hole. Is this a new seal system that must stay sealed? Would I be foolish to pull the plug out?

I worry fuel could leak into my motor oil or motor oil could leak into my fuel and I would not notice it soon enough to prevent bigger problems.
