I have a 2000 Freightliner Classic XL with a series 60 Detroit engine, 500 HP. The motor has recently been overhauled. Losing 2 1/2 gallons of oil within 50 miles. It is not coming out of blow by and has no visible leaks. Any suggestions on what the problem is? Thank you

I agree with Stump. Also how long ago was the motor rebuilt and how did you do the breakin. Most guys set them outside and bump the idle up and let them run for a few hours. after rebuild you should find a loaded trailer and drive it like you would any other motor getting water temp up and oil temp, also exhaust temp. 2.5 gallon in 50 miles is a lot of oil. Thinking oil rings did not seat and your burning oil thru the exhaust. to check, remove exhaust pipe off of turbo and see if its wet with oil. Good luck

Thanks for input. Only has about 1500 miles on rebuild. I bought it from someone one recently and they gave me documentation on rebuild. I am thinking the rings didn't seat also. Will check this out because no visible leaks and have checked radiator, tanks, etc
