1997 ford F-250 214,000 MILES original owner 8,000 mile religious oil changes babied this truck because I really like it. 2 wheel drive extended cab no rear doors. Totally rebuilt the E4od from ground up, u name it I put it in, relay switch, solenoid pack cleaned the harness and put de-oxidizer compound to ensure contact. Unhooked the batteries several times to reset computer, new pump, new torque converter, into this little project to about $1600. get picture perfect 1,2,3, but absolutely no fourth. the new torque converter seems to be mushy, may be defective but can't possibly flush another $550. Does anyone have a hint. I refuse to take it to a transmission shop, the last one cost me $3600, the one before that $1600 the one before that $1000 these were all different cars and each time it was leave it and we will estimate it for you. NO ----- WAY. sorry for the expletive. signed VERY FRUSTRATED KEN.

I have pushed in the overdrive button and it has down shifted but this is a rare occasion. If I didn't replace the center support with a new one would that cause enough fluid bypass to not fully engage all 4 clutches even though the solenoids are working properly and opening the gates. I also air tested all the diaphragms with air and they all worked. This thing is killing me slowly........Ken.

The overdrive button does not take it out of 4th gear it merely engages the band to a downshift where the trans starts slowing the truck, so it really never shifted into 4th yet. Everything has been replaced electrical on this trans with new out of the box solenoid and position sensor. the only thing that is worrying me is the center support, I put new bearings in and it seems to be wearing too much for the amount of time I have had it together. If I replaced the bearing and center hub would this possibly fix the overdrive as it would close the tolerance for the fluid pressure. (WHERE IS RACER "X" WHEN YOU NEED HIM) Everybody raves that he is the man for trans.
