I have a chance to purchase a 1990 Ford 7.3 non-turbo diesel, but have some questions/reservations. The truck has been in climate-controlled storage for about 3 1/2 years. Prior to storage it was in excellent shape. The engine was rebuilt and the transmission had been serviced about 3 months prior to putting it inside climate controlled storage (I knew the truck and owner prior to storage). It has not been started since putting it in storage. The owner says he put fuel stabilizer in it prior to storage, but nothing else has been done. there for about three years. Here are my questions:

1. Should I have any reservations about the truck...will "just sitting" cause any seal problems in either the engine or transmission?

2. Does the fuel need to be replaced or re-conditioned prior to starting it?

3. What maintenance should be done prior to starting it and/or driving it?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated!!

'I listed a surplus Watermota diesel on DieselEngineTrader. It took a few months to sell, but I was delighted as the engine was quite obscure and I never thought anyone would buy it!'

'DieselEngineTrader gives us the opportunity to broaden our sales coverage at very reasonable cost. We sold an International 7.3 to Florida for an advertising cost of only $15.00'

Horace Weaver, Tri-County Diesel Marine, Bellingham, WA

'We sold a Turbo in 2 weeks to a guy in Houston! We also sold the first engine we listed - an old Hatz. It took 2 months to sell but that was OK as we couldn't move it locally. We track visitors to our website and we get lots from DieselEngineTrader.com. Your website really works, it's a great service and we'll be using DieselEngineTrader.com for years to come!'
