I'm looking at a small commercial fishing boat that is powered by a 180 HP Ford 401 I-6 diesel. Any information on these motors would be greatly appreciated. Are they reliable? Common failures? Years made? From an internet search it seems like many parts are still available. I don't have a serial number yet, but can get one on Thursday.
Thanks,

It is likely to be the same 6.6 litre they put in trucks and tractors. Made by New Holland in Brazil. Cant remember the production dates, but I'll say somewhere around 86 they started, and stopped in 93. Plenty reliable, as long as the fuel rate isnt turned up too far.

'Listed a Perkins T6.354 on DieselEngineTrader and sold it after 5 month. With a listing fee of $5.00 per month and no commission, it was much cheaper and more effective than the magazine we also used.'

'In our first 2 months of advertising we sold 4 engines, 2 to Australia and 2 to Brazil. We deal in new and used engines and parts and advertising on DieselEngineTrader works very well for us - we get regular enquiries from all over the world.'
