well I am a bit perplexed....a friend has a 88 F250 with a 7.3L International. a few days ago she was fine....then I got a call from him and she wouldnt Crank...had been acting like batteries were dying all day. batteries were tested at 12.5 each, good on the load test and specific Gravity....assuming they were good I turned to the Starter.....a new starter did not solve the slow cranking issue.
roll starting ( after a normal preheat ) gets her running and she runs great plenty of get up and go! no missing no stumbling, in fact there is nothing to nindicate a problem untill you shut her down....then the slow cranking begins again.
I have heard of only two occasions where batteries tested good but lacked the cranking amps to do the job, before my friend spends over $200 on new batteries........anyone offer a bit of help here? starting & charging systems are my weak point and The problem is right there but dumping $200 in parts on a hunch is not somthing we can do without a strong sense that it will cure the problem....

ANYONE Your thoughts PLEASE...
TIA, Dannydisgusted

Hey Man i have a a 93 with a 7.3 in it also.mine was having a hard time starting and i went throught he battery thing then a new starter and even a cylinoid but in the end after spending all that money the voltage reulator was going out and it was the cheapest part to buy go figure. you might want to try that b4 you try anything else if that doesnt work trace the ground wire if that starter was going out it will burn a ground wire in half when it finally goes.

Wish you luck bro,

One more thing to remember, I have seen faulty cables and bad connections create enough heat to melt lead, as far as wire and terminals are concerned. Most folks remember to start with the basics, but in case nothing else works....................p.s. the short thing is a good lead, maybe a faulty plug controller or shorted plug. -Frank
