I'm looking to up the HP on a 903 in a old KW I think the cpl is 340 350hp? How hard would it be to change it to a higher hp military or marine Thanks

You can go up to somewhere around 475hp on the VT-903 with a little modfication. Stock horsepower ranged from 340 to 400 if my memeory is correct. I hope you aren't planning to make a daily runner out of it. The parts are almost impossible to get anymore. I needed an exhaust manifold for one several years ago and Cummins said the last one in existance had been about 5 years before. It was never a real powerful dependable engine. I think Cummins would like to forget they ever made it.

I might be sick but I have always liked the V8 engines ran a lot of the 903 and 504 in ferterizer spreaders over the years What would I have to do to get this up to 475hp? the truck is going to be a spare and show truck. As for parts I know they are high but over the years I've got a good stash of spare parts and always keep my eye out for more. Thanks again

With your camshaft and rocker ratio 1:1 - injector change , turbo and adv injection timing will give you 400 hp + on the old style pistons without much smoke Regards David

I can't remember all what is needed for the 475hp (too many years ago, like back in the 70's), but I believe depending on what pistons you have, they may need to be changed. The pump had to be juiced up, the injectors had to be recalibrated with different nozzles, marine cam with an offset key maybe, and I do believe we got away using a stock 855 Cummins T-50 turbo. The few we did produced 470-480hp on an engine dyno.
