I have an 05 isx engine with an air control modulator leaking air from the very top of it. On the modulator their is a flat washer and a torque's head screw on it that the air is coming from. Cummins says no rebuild kit (is that true?)new one is $800. What I don't understand is the air only leaks done to 90psi then stops. Please any suggestions or answers. Thank you, silo.

Neither, This unit is below the compressor on left side of engine. Their is an air line on the top of the modulator going from itself to the turbo. and on the front side is an electrical plug. Thanks

You,ve got the early version of air control valve for the turbo without the filter !, if it leaks past the spool seals it will lose pressure and drop to system pressure , the test spec for the valve is to hold 15psi for for five minutes(on the outlet ) the fact that yours is still holding system pressure and unless you,ve got a wastegate problem it should,nt give you a problem , check all your grounds and the plug becuase resistance can sometimes cause these to exhaust . Cummins will sell you a new valve but most times pulling the spool out and cleaning it will suffice , back up seals and o-rings can be bought at most hydraulic outlets . The next series had a filter on it to stop contamination Regards David

Just for your imfo silo , I just had an 03 ISX with a different controller come in and it did,nt have a filter on it but it a different actuator and a diaphragm in it , it had a pin hole in it but it was causing waste gate problems , So that makes three different controllers for ISX/ Sig Regards David

Forgot what I was originally writing the post for - Cummins don,t sell the diaphragm for the controller but a boost diaphragm out of a japanese diesel pump does the job nicely !!! Regards David

I had a similar issue and talking with my boss, he told me the same thing. $800 or so for a new valve. I guess at one point he had 14 of these valves on his box waiting for Holset to come out with a rebuild kit! The problem I ran across was an audible air leak that took the tanks right down when engine was shut off.

Hey JwatDtR or westcoast . Any info on that rebuild kit for these valve's. we had to replace another one this week. Took one apart to see what it looked like it doesn't look like your common o-ring's one part had like a rubber diaphram in it. Did find the valve a little cheaper through kenworth for 625.00

They,re not rebuild kits -just parts out of other valves and pumps that will do the job - give us the part number off the modulator that you want to fix and I,ll tell you the parts that I used to rectify them . Regards David

its a valve dumper, so its not like a line leaking, its exhausting out cause the valve is sticking open or something to the fact that the valve itself is bad.

truck was in Cummins for some unrelated repairs so I bit the bullet and had them replace the valve as it was exhausting air big time-
burns my ass when devices are deemed "unserviceable" when I get the old one back I'm going to take it apart and see what makes it tick.
seems to be an array of devices to control the turbo -the older ones electric over air and now simply electronic all with bugs.
