i was planning on buying a relatively new 6.5 liter turbo diesel, chevy or gmc, and came across an add that was a relatively good price but it says needs new rings and i was wondering if anyone could explain if this would cost much or is it something simple that i might be able to do? thx.

HI,
well i would require a strip down of engine ie:- remove heads and sump unbolt conrods and push pistons out, you would need to get hold of the service manual .

And there's more than just buying new rings and installing them. You need to know how to check clearances. And properly install them with out breaking them. Then dealing with the rod bearings etc.
