Does pin 18 on the actuator harness supply power all the time to the jake relays or should it only supply 12 v+ power once the low voltage parmaters have been met (i.e throttle off, clutch out, engine above 1100 ? Mine is seems to have power all the time and I can't see how that could be right.

Guess I am going to have to buy another detroit because at least "gone fishen" in the detoit forum actually responds to posts that i put up about my detroit. I can't be the only one who has this problem, and other than this problem, the truck is running fine. Can power be feeding into another pin in the actuator port "c" that would cause pin 18 to have power when it shouldn't or is my ecm toast? Anybody, anyone here have an idea?

You should,nt have voltage at pin 18 until the ecm wants to activate the jakes - In the actuator harness check pin 16 ( fuel solenoid ) pin 17 ( fan clutch ) and pin 18 for shorting -pin 19 is for jakes also . Make sure there are no external wire hook ups to the jake wires Regards David

I do not have a wire on pin 19, although we could probably put one. I isolated the plug that has the switched 12V to turn on the ecm and, return power for the fan clutch and and jake relay. I pulled the plug apart, and connected only the 12 V supply from the ignition and as soon as I did power returned on the "c wire" of that plug which is connected directly to pin 18, and no wires are rubbed through or melted together. The pins on the ecm are in good shape. That is why I was wondering if somehow power could be "leaking into" another pin on the ecm other than the 4 bonafide power wires and 1 ignition wire and causing pin 18 to activate when it shouldn't. By the way, new power wires and grounds have done to deetrmine if that was an issue (they weren't in the best shape) . All wires are capable of brilliantly lighting a 100 watt halogen bulb so I know I've got clean power. All the engine, frame and cab grounds have been redone as well. The jake wasn't working at all before I started into all of this, but as soon as I cleaned everything up, it wouldn't shut off. That is why I am questioning whether this is an ecm problem or just power somehow making it to pin 18 because another pin has been energized. Also is there any way to clear the codes without hooking the ecm to a computer?

Thanks
Norm

You,ve certainly put some effort into this - Disconnect ecm plug A and then check for power at pin 18 on C plug - Key on - if voltage is present most likely it,s in the ecm - How did you clean the ecm ? Moisture will do funny things , also check pin 19 at the same time ( it may not be enabled ) for voltage . Regards David

I just read your other post on gremlins !! check what I said in last post , pin 19 even though it,s not being used ( for jakes or fan ) if it,s enabled and you,ve got moisture inside the ecm on that plug it can feed your jakes or any other output - do you have any codes ? active or inactive . Active codes will go inactive once repaired but if you want to clear inactive faults you have to plug in Regards David

Thank you for your response. Am I assuming correctly when you say the "A" harness that you mean the sensor harness at the bottom of the ecm and not the "B"OEM harness that is beside the "C" actuator harness?
