I have 2001 f350 7.3ltr . My battery light is staying on and of course figured it was my alternator and went out and bought one, I installed
it and light is still is on? I checked all fuses and relays and all are fine. I phoned a mechanic and he said there should be power to the two wires in the clip on the alt, but theres only one wire with power . I don't know were else to look if some body could help me please&thank you Rusty

Sometimes the plug can be bad you can get a replacement plug to wire in try wiggling it and see if it starts charging. That is the plug that fields the alternator 2 have to be hot.

The power that feeds those two wires comes from a hot feed in the underhood wiring harness, usually through a fusible link. Good luck finding that fusible link. Run a hot 16 ga from pos batt over to alt and hook it in. Fixed. My 99 v-10 350 did the same thing. Had that wiring harness stripped down 7 ways from sunday,no fusible link there, so I did what I just told you to do. Works fine. Yep, after buying a new alt, and taking it back and having it tested too. Drove me bananas for 2 months. A little wire and a schematic will fix a lot. Could probably wire it to alt output. Up to you. Just check that it ain't draining the battery leaving it hooked up- mine didn't.
