I have a Steiner tractor with a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel. The engine was running full throttle when it idled to 1/4 throttle all at once. It runs smooth, but will not advance past 1/4 throttle. The linkage is fine and nothing appears out of adjustment. The oil level is normal and the filters appear normal as well. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I changed the fuel filters, but it did not make a difference. I don't have a means of checking the fuel pressure. Any other thoughts?

Not familiar with the engine but I would make sure the fuel pump is making it to the full fuel position.

You should be able to disconnect the throttle linkage, at the throttle lever, which is on the fuel injection pump, and manually move the lever to full fuel position and see if the engine revs up.

It is also possible for this fuel pump lever to loosen and slip on the throttle shaft and give you reduced amount of throttle.

Is there any pto controls that limit engine speed on this tractor?

The pump throttle linkage maxs at the factory throttle stop. I will remove the nut from the pivot linkage and see if it has slipped, as you suggested. I put a wrench to it at it was tight, but it still may have slipped.

Thanks

Also, make sure the shutdown lever has its full travel and is reaching its full on position.

I removed the lock nuts from the engine throttle shaft and the locater pin was positioned correctly on the throttle shaft. Next, I cut the safety wire from the factory stops and adjusted the set screws to max throttle position. The engine did rev higher, but still less than 1/2 throttle. Pressurizing the fuel tank made no difference in engine rpms. Neither did removing the air cleaner system.

No PTO on tractor. Fuel shut off is completely open.

I'm still perplexed.

don't know if you have your engine going yet, but it sound like the governor spring came unhook, if you remove your throttle control plate the spring will be under it

Hi Steiner Guy,

I came across this discussion and am very curious to know if you were able to resolve your problem with low idle?

I am experiencing the exact same problem with my Kubota diesel engine in my Bobcat skid steer.

Like you, I checked fuel lines, replaced filters, checked throttle linkage, etc. -- no luck confused

Upon the advice of others smarter than myself, I will attempt to check/replace governor springs.

Any feedback would be most helpful!

Thanks
