Sounds like you have a fuel quality issue. Might mean your diesel fuel has a low cetane number. The higher the cetane, the faster the starting, smoother the idling, and the more horsepower.

Ether ignites quick and hot, which helps in the diesel ignition process. I'd probably recommend using a good diesel additive in your fuel and fix the problem at the source. In the long run, ether can dry out your fuel and reduce the lubricity properties in it. That will cause engine wear and damage. Cetane corrects without damage.

I know many people think of additives as hokum and snake oil, but they've either tried the wrong product or did not make a wise selection. There are a lot out there, some work better than others and off the shelf isn't always the best choice.

'We've sold 7 engines in 4 months through DieselEngineTrader.com - one to Utah, three to South Dakota, one to New York, one to Kansas and one locally in Wisconsin! I also advertise in other publications but DieselEngineTrader.com gets the best results and at a great price too! I like the way that my engines are shown at the top of Google searches and DieselEngineTrader.com will definitely be playing a major part in my advertising from now on.'
