so here's the deal: i just installed four newly rebuilt injectors into my leyland 1500 diesel and now it burns oil quite bad until fully warm, at which point the exhaust clears. it used to blow white (injectors) and then it sat for a few months waiting for me to get around to rebuilding the injectors. my pet theory is the rings are gummed up. opinions? if that is the correct, will dumping a load of penetrating oil into the cylinders have the potential to help? this thing has only about 1700 hrs although it's almost 30 years old.

although it is the least likely issue, i'm wondering if one of my (new) injectors is off. i just started the engine and discovered that one of my glow plugs isn't heating, and that can cause unburned fuel to smoke blue in a cold engine. but the strange thing is that if i put the engine under load the smoking almost completely stops, even with a cold engine. it's when it is idling free that is smokes heavily.

also even when it is completely warmed up it will still smoke blue when i rev the motor without load (something i never noticed out there because when you are using the motor, why would you rev it without the prop engaged?)

this might confirm the stuck rings issue but for one thing - when i pull off the crankcase breather hose there is no pressure - there is next to no blowby. and it's not a plugged hose because when i take the filler cap off the valve cover same thing. very little is getting past the piston rings.

i'm starting to wonder if it isn't a bad injector leaking fuel into the cylinder. anyone have any other ideas
