I have a 98 CK3500, 6.5L. 4x4. auto with 205K miles. Exhaust alone probably won't give you a significant power increase. At about 100K miles, I removed the stock muffler and the catylitic converter. Sounds better! I understand that turbos don't need backpressure like a conventional engine, since the exhaust spins the turbo and then just vents. The noise level straight out of a turbo is low. Seems like backpressure would just slow down the turbo. If you want substantial power, then you will need a bigger turbo and better fuel delivery system. I just found a website where they are building 6.5 marine motors with 300 HP. For some reason they use 18:1 pistons instead of 22:1 and they use a bigger turbo (costs about the same as a rebuilt stock unit) and a high flow injecter pump/injectors.

They sell short blocks, long blocks, complete engines and parts.

I'm putting in a new Power Demon 4L80E tranny this weekend (lost reverse, oh well, 205K miles is not bad) and plan to rebuild the engine with one of the $2500 long blocks available everywhere, with the Peninsular turbo/fuel system next summer.

I pull a 6000 lb horse trailer and I won't win any races with the Fords or Dodges, but I get there!

They use the lower compression to compensate for the extra boost, they are running that engine around 15 psi, where as the stock 6.5 is about 7psi. My truck also has no cat or muffler, just strait pipes. Some will argue about required backpressure but I personally believe that spinning a turbine is more than enough back pressure. Less back pressure faster boost responce times. Sounds alot better without mufflers anyway.
