Exhaust alone probably won't give you a significant power increase. At about 100K miles, I removed the stock muffler and the catylitic converter. Sounds better! I understand that turbos don't need backpressure like a conventional engine, since the exhaust spins the turbo and then just vents. The noise level straight out of a turbo is low. Seems like backpressure would just slow down the turbo. If you want substantial power, then you will need a bigger turbo and better fuel delivery system. I just found a website where they are building 6.5 marine motors with 300 HP. For some reason they use 18:1 pistons instead of 22:1 and they use a bigger turbo (costs about the same as a rebuilt stock unit) and a high flow injecter pump/injectors. I'm putting in a new Power Demon 4L80E tranny this weekend (lost reverse, oh well, 205K miles is not bad) and plan to rebuild the engine with one of the $2500 long blocks available everywhere, with the Peninsular turbo/fuel system next summer. I pull a 6000 lb horse trailer and I won't win any races with the Fords or Dodges, but I get there![/q]
