We have a 2001 C7 in a 36ft winnebago motor home. We just bought it 5 months ago and we have used it twice. The last trip, past weekend, we did a couple hill climbs and the engine was running a little hot. We would have to pull over and let it idle to cool down, once pulled over the temp would drop down very fast back to normal. I have checked the coolant and engine oil level and both are full. I found the water pump belt to be a little loose so i tightened it but it didnt help. The fan runs and pushes air but not really like a road tractor does, but this is a pusher engine so everything is backwards. Coolant was flushed and filled with new two years ago, im not sure if they used CAT ELC but with inly two years and 4,000 miles on the coolant i think any coolant would still be doing the job?? Could this be oil related, i know all about the HEUI system. I dont have pyro or boost gauges yet, wish i did. All in all it run great, starts up really good, it will just run hot a WOT.

What else can i check?

Any help is great.

Check radiator. It may be plugged from dirt and etc. If possible plow out carefully from the inside out. Also a easy test you can do is when the engine fan is on put a rag close to the radiator and see if fan can suck it against the radiator.
