I have a 3126 with a 1wm serial number and its in a Freightliner FL 70. To me the truck runs hot whether pulling a trailer or just goin down the road empty and its getting worse....I'm thinking of putting a bigger radiator in (for example if it's currently a 3 row then maybe a 4 row) or a better quality one. My guess the one that is currently in is the oringinal, its a Behr and plastic I believe. Suggestions?

Used to T/S alot of overheats on the dyno and one thing I noticed that most all shared. If it is hot and you pull over or coast to remove the load, fan on and the engine temp comes down fairly quickly. it indiacates a loss of cooling capacity, a partially plugged radiator internally or externally from road debrie, bugs ect, genraly indiacating a loss of cooling capacity. If you pull over or take away the load and the temp takes forever to come down even if you raise the rpms and fan on of coarse. Usually indiacates a lack of coolant flow, thermostats, water pump or drive belt for waterpump, complete blockage of coolant or a loss of flow ect, This does not work if you have a blown head gasket, fan not working ect.

TD...thanks. I put a new water pump, thermostat, ELC (coolant), keep the radiator fairly clean.....my thoughts have always been that it needs a bigger radiator. The head gasket was changed about two years ago. The truck runs good.....just can't stand watching that heat gauge move around so much.
