I have 1,700,000 on my series 60. It has been rebuilt at 1,400,000 but it has never had a new balancer put on it. Should I put one on?
If so should it be a Detroit part or a after market one?
And do they just unbolt or do you have to pull them off like a car balancer?

Thanks Mike

That's what I did but I also added the mercury balancer with the Vibratech damper. I think Detroit suggest changing them out around 500,000 mi.

I might add that the old damper and a eye bolt can take on a new life as a swivel base for a dog lead out in the yard. He ain't gonna drag that thing very far! :-)

I think the manual say 1 million miles and replace the bolts too. Easy and important to replace. I don't think you can go wrong with OEM when it is Detroit Diesel.
