A parts guy told me I need a 23525566.

Anyone know what is different about the 23525567?

I have a 1999 DDEC IV. 06R0541739. The head is original. I don't know the part number of the head I have but a Detroit parts guy told me I need 23525566. I found a 23525567 I would like to buy but I don't know what the difference is. Maybe something with the number of bolts used in the thrust plate behind the cam gear? Some older models had 2 bolts into the head and some had three. I'm not sure and the seller does not know.

Someone else just told me the difference between the 23525567 and 23525566 head is in the size of the valves?

Correction, someone told me it had upgraded valves and valve guides (not necessarily bigger valves). But someone else told me the 23525567 number is an older style head.

The guy who I got my head from told me DDEC III and DDEC IV heads are all the same with the exception of one hole missing on the back of a DDEC III head but it's a simple drill and tap fix. I actually have a DDEC III head off a 12.7 on my DDEC IV 14L. I measured the valves on the two before I installed the new one and they were the same size

Thanks for the info. I need to try a difference Detroit shop tomorrow. If I buy a head I can not use, it will be an expensive mistake.

I'm quite confident it they're the same regardless of the part number. You can always check inside the top for the casting number. If they're the same, which they should be, they're definitely interchangeable. For most of this stuff I just forget about Detroit and find a machine shop or rebuilder who works on this stuff all the time and get info from them...they usually know way more than the guy with the computer.

I bought it.

From what I can find out, I think it has improved valves but yes it is completely interchangeable. Yes, same casting number.

Thanks for your input!
