Hello gentleman, I own a small tree business in the Colorado foothills. I use a 2004 Bandit chipper with a 130 hp Cat diesel, a 2006 Mustang track loader with a Yanmar 67hp diesel and Ford f550 6.0 litre diesel.
My question is, if I use biodiesel made from used veg oil will I encounter engine problems or power loss? What would be a good bio/dino diesel mix? Manufacturers state not to go ove a 5% mix, (5% bio and 95% dino diesel).
Obviously I am trying to save money on fuel and hopefully not sacrifice performance or damage my motors. I figure you guys will have the best information on this subject.

Hello, I haven't run bio personally but, some of my customers use it. B-20 and below shows no ill effects. There is a website all about BioDiesel, can't remember it's address, but shouldn't be hard to find. Good Luck, Kevin

Hi guy

Let me try to help you at this point Bio Fuels are very new. It's working for some but it's causing lot's of other people big issues. My suggestion on how to save money is become more efficient in other ways like fuel additives better greases. The right fuel additive can give you 3-5 percent return and the grease can help save fuel, parts and labor. Need more understanding reply.

Hi there!

Since this was posted in 2008 and today is 2014, I'll bet you've found out all about the great (and the not-so-great) things about bio-diesel blends. Bio works well as a lubricity agent and in fact, most diesel fuels in the US are a 2% blend already. This allows the producers to get their mandated renewable fuels blending percentages.

However, bio-diesel does tend to react adversely to cold weather much sooner than traditional diesel fuel. It needs something to keep it functional. Kerosene is expensive and there are additives out there which can treat even B20 blends!
