Hello I have a 1994 CHEVY 1500 with a 6.5 TURBO DIESEL,the truck went to the shop with a glow plug problem and when i got it back the starter was not hitting the flywheel(just made a grinding noise).the shop said I needed a new starter so I replaced it and it is still doing the same thing..I have even shimmed it, does anybody have any suggestions?

Could have a couple teeth missing on your flywheel. I saw this on my boss' work truck when I replaced the starter for him. To avoid having to replace the flywheel you can put a breaker bar on the crank and rotate the engine by hand to move the flywheel to a different part. You will probably run into that problem again depending on where the flywheel stops when you shut the engine down. I neversaw it in a year of driving the work truck. Its probably only a couple teeth and the chances of it stopping there are pretty slim.

Hello,

I have a 1995 Suburban 1500 with 6.5 V8.

I have the same starter problem. Put a new one on it and it also rattled over the flywheel.
I've checked the flexplate, but there are no teeth missing.

Did Hottroddv10 find a solution or does anybody knows what else could be wrong?

Thanx!
