I have a 2007 cat c 13 Acert Kcb engine
Has 470 hp
1750 torque
10 speed od tranny
358 rears

runs smooth and has no knocks in the motor, no blow by
I pull medium hills in Pa with a small dump bucket 80k 75% of the time
My question is why am I only pulling 4.78 Mpg no matter what I do
Tried to baby it or push it hard and still the same
I need to get alot better fuel mpg than that to make this truck work for me

Changed fuel filter, air filter, oil, and still the same
I need to know if i should dig into the motor or if this is something that is computer related
The truck also seems like it is running hot with the oil temp being around 235 240degree when im pulling a load with the coolant being around 200 to 210degree
I need help in the worst way to figure this problem out otherwise i will be forced to sell the truck
Any Suggestions

I believe 470 hp is at the top of the scale for a C-13 engine without major changes, so that may be the reason for higher oil and coolant temps. Also, pulling hills with tall gears like you have could result in lower fuel economy, believe it or not.

What can be done for a 2004 CAT C13 KCB21422 525hp that is only getting 5.4mpg with an Allison 6spd in a 42k lb motorhome? I started another thread with that same questions but you said you have an answer to the hp and fuel mileage problem. Does the FLS and FTS settings have any bearing on it?

when ever i do them (tune them), i delete the vva/iva and that helps them out to breath a lot better:
