Hey I got a new 3116 installed its a 200 hp that runs exc but seems severely underpowered my old motor was 250 hp would the extra 50hp make such a huge difference ??? I mean with old engine with severe blowby and leaking antifreeze in engine still had more get up and go than perfect running 3116 no blowby low mile??

Is it a manual engine? If so, check the cable adjustment....it can easily slip and need to be reset.

Manual engine or electronic. The cable connects to the governor on the top left side of the engine from your foot pedal. There is an easy adjustment to insure you are getting a full fuel position on the governor.

Took advice and checked to find out it was out of adjustment very little maybe lacking 1/4 inch if that ,I then reset cable now getting complete throtle ,seems odd but that little bit was making a good bit of difference ,running a lot better now but still seems a bit dead on old motor I remember the turbo coming in and out much quicker and louder thought maybe for some reason not getting right amount of boost for some reason????? I'm sure if its not just right(turbo/boost)it would make a world of difference seeing there isn't a lot of power anyway but I'm not sure where to start as to figuring/troubleshooting correct boost, I was gonna have it turned up a little just scarred to death of melting that expensive project I Just got finished !engine sounds very healthy no blowby,I'm kinda lost in which direction to go

You aren't going to get much out of a 200 HP engine without bringing up the HP and torque. That could override the cost of what it's worth. I can't remember if 200 HP or 215 HP is the cut-off for major changes to get to 250 HP...I believe it is 200. Maybe somebody else knows. Torque is important too.....
Horsepower is responsible for moving the truck along and gives it the ability to go down the road and accelerate on level ground. Torque is the force that helps the truck start moving from a stop and pulls it up hills. Bla-bla-bla.....
I had a few we put propane injection on and it did help, but that could get costly too. You might want to check your fuel pressure....and from my experience, most tune up's don't produce noticable results.
The other thing I have found is that a lot of bus engines were marked 200 HP but had been de-rated to 185 HP.
