I have a CAT 3208 non-turbo in my pusher bus, recently i hired a mechanic off craigslist to pull out the bad IP and then install it once it is rebuilt.. Well the guy is too busy now and doesn't want to install it for the agreed upon price.. So, I am moving forward by sending the pump away to be rebuilt and I plan on installing it myself.. I cant find any good links on how to do it.. Can people share info with me..

Did you pin the pump before you pulled it? If not you will have to pin the cam too. Been many years since I have done one but mount the pump with the timing pin in it. Snug the bolt so it slips. If you know your on the right stroke (if not that's why you pin the cam) When I brought the timing mark TDC If I remember right. I think the other mark is VS. I stop the mark at the begging of the timing pointer ( I think that was 10 deg. advanced) and lock the pump down I think was 110 ft. Hook all fuel lines up and open the bleed valve on the pump and pump till fuel comes out. Shut valve and bleed all fuel lines at the nozzles. Hope that helps but its been over 10 years since I have done one. Brent

There is a fitting on the front of the engine with a cap on it. The cap comes off and a 3/8 bolt goes into the cam gear. Also, there is one on the flywheel on some of them, but it could be 180 degrees off. Before you do anything, you need to see if he has installed a bolt in either position.

there is a drill bit in the front. this is for alignment.. I expect to have the pump back in a week and a half.. at which point im gonna go at it.. I will post pics this week.. If people will tune in live for my instillation that would be a big help.. I can post videos and pics with questions and people can answer..

5/16 nc 2.5 inches long not 3/8. the hole where the fitting with the cap comes out, put a rag under it so if you drop it, it does not fall behind the damper, unless you have a brass magnet to get it out, (ha ha). it's a pain so don't drop it.

with the bolt screwed in the cam gear, that is number one tdc, only. the fuel injection pump has a cover with a screw sticking up out of it, next to it is a 9/16 head bolt with a seal under it, take it out. that is where the timing pin goes in, that is also number one tdc when pin is in the slot of the fuel cam.

So I got thw pump in and have some questions on how to install it.. could people please look at my photos and tell me what I need to do.. i know something needs to be done for timing,, once taht is complete I can hook up all the lines and bleed em..
