Hello. My GMC Topkick Cat '91 3116 is puking engine oil out the top of the power steering pump resevoir so I purchased a new power steering pump figuring the input shaft seals were bad. Amazing that the steering felt unaffected with no signs of power steering fluid in the mix. I'll flush out the old oil from the resevoir and steering box.

I also noticed that there is oil leaking from the flange area where the the power steering pump bolts up to the rear of the air brake compressor. Is there a gasket or standard O-ring between the two I should replace while I'm in there?

Am I correct at assuming that the engine oil that lubes the air compressor flows all the way over to the power steering pump input shaft and hence the pressurized oil gets into the pump when the pump seals fail or is there an issue with the seals in the air compressor?

Thanks for your input as I really want to stop the bleeding.

You are correct. Power steering system will draw in engine oil and overfill system when seals get worn. Gasket between the two is a 6d1004. You usually dont notice anything but the resivoir puking oil.

Is this required gasket a large standard O-ring or user makable paper gasket that I'd be able to round up on a Sunday? If not I'll order one up.

I'll replace the standard O-rings behind the oil sender cast T assembly while the pump is off.

It is a gasket. I have had problems with the orings sealing so I always use that gasket. No problems with it. I know cummins makes a pretty good gasket also that will work. I would reseal the T make sure the air compresser rear mount is tight and look over the air compresser oil supply line.
