Well we have a 1994 Ford LTL 9000, that originally had a Detroit Series 60 DDEC 2 in it. Well after switching to an 8V92 because the Series 60 gave out, we finally switched back to a Detroit Series 60 but have come to find that the new Series 60 is a DDEC 3/4 engine. Is there a way to convert the truck to operate with the newer DDEC 3? I was told that using the Power Adapter Harness (23517986) used in the Detroit Conversion Kit (R23529490) would solve my problems, but that cruise control and jakes wouldn't work. So does anyone know if the Power Adapter Harness will fix everything or is there another route? The 5 pin power connector is the only plug thats not on the truck side.

If you get the power harness the rest could be made to work properly if you are willing to to some wiring. To get the jakes working you will have to run 2 new wires to the ecm and possibly remove the jake module/relay that is used for the 2 engines. The cruise may just need different switches.

Where would the best place to find a wiring diagram on the detroit and on the truck itself? I can't find one online anywhere, and it being so old, i doubt a digital version is even available.

Try this if it works. I was thinking a website that dealt with campers had one too but can't find it.
I have converted a ddd2 engine to a ddd3. Detroit said I couldn't do it but I did. Was a lot of learning going on by the end of it.

I had to wire up a ddd3 that was put in a truck with a DDD2 come out of last summer. The guy that owns the truck and did the switch bought a harness from a place that makes them. I didn't use it thought, it be easier to add what I need and rework the rest. But you have to under stand wiring some what. If you don't have gray hair when you start you will by the time its done. DDD2 uses some 3 wire switch like clutch and ddd3 only use 2 wire so you have to rewire some of it.

The harness he bought was all labeled but no bulk head fitting. So just had me rewire it. Hope that helps.

Well, after getting the harness adapter and tons of time trying, we gave up. One of the mechanics came in and said that after turning it by hand, he couldn't feel any compression at all. So, we are overhauling an older engine we had, so that we can put it back in there with the same DDEC II harnesses and what not. So now I have DDECIII engine with potentially no compression, but the only test performed on it was turning it by hand before they started tearing it down.
