Ok guys. Glad to be a member here. Got a question. My local junkyard has a huge crane in the back and it is powered by a Detroit V8 Diesel engine. I am guessing it is a 8V71 or 8N71, or whathaveyou. It also has a blower sitting in the valley between the heads. Now, is it possible to somehow adapt this blower to be used with a GM 6.2L Diesel engine? Or is it entirely possible to use the entire engine in place of my own 6.2? Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks for any help or suggestions you may have! Good day!

Chuck

HI,
Havent seen anyone do that to a 6.2L but every thing is possible given time and money and a good workshop.!!!!!!!!
they used a lot of the 671 blowers on a lot of hot rod chevy's..
but havent seen a 8v71 blower used, but its not impossible!!!!!!
what is your 6.2L in???
that 8v71 would weigh in the vicinity of 2000 LBS PLus!!!!!!!!

Hi badges65. Well I did some studying in my new-found Detroit Diesel Allison service manual for that engine, and I was able to take a peek at what the underside of that blower <which happens to be a 4-71!> and have determined that it would be extremely difficult to adapt that blower to my manifold. It seems the outlet ports are huge and along the bottom sides to feed each cylinder. On that 8V71, the intake ports are in the block along the valley between the heads because it's a two-stroke engine. I do think it would be neat to pay $35 for it just to have it. That's all the junkyard wants for those, that is if it can be pulled easily. And as for it weighing 2000lbs, I guess I won't be trying to shoehorn that sucka into my truck's engine bay anytime soon happy Good day

Hi Chuck.
No sure what you are refering to about 471 etc..
471 is side mounted on a engine same as 671 they can be adapted to fit a small block v8 you just need a good machine shop bloke to do it the 671's were used a lot on hot rods onto v8 chevy blocks..
both 671/471 & 8v71 are 2 stroke engines..
that 8v71 engine if it is a water below ports late model engine would be worth a couple of grand as a core engine!!!!!!
if you can get it for that price and be able to store it good value!!!
