My FIL has a 2-71 running a refrigeration pump in his schooner. I'm to replace the main and rod bearings in it due to low oil psi.
My dad (a former USCG mechanic told me they inserted a soft rivet in the oil passage of the crank, and barred the engine over to roll the bearing out. Could any one epand on this metod? Size of rivet or galley?
Does anyone here have a PDF manual for overhauling these engines? Id only need sections pertaining to crankshaft and oil pump, but the whole thing would be nice.
. Any insight would be helpfull. If you have the torque specs handy, a scan would be appreciated.

Thank you, Aaron.

I just use a bolt of a size that fits into the oil hole in the crank. Grind the head down thin with an arc profile so it looks like a mushroom head, to a thickness less than the thickness of the insert, so when the cap is off, you stick the bolt in the oil hole, turn the engine carefully by hand until the edge of the bolt hits the insert, continue to turn until the insert comes out. You must turn in the direction that does not push against the side of the bearing with the tang as this will obviously NOT go back through the block, it must be the first end out, and the last end in. Use general bolt torque chart based on bolt size, grade, and thread pitch, this will get you close.
