I have a 86 6.2 diesel tthat i am having problems with. All four plugs on the right side burned out so i replaced them with a set from Napa. Those burned out in about a week. Glow plug wire resistance is all good. Voltage is all good. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be. Left side pugs are still good so i dont think the controller is bad either. Any info would be great. Thanks...Tomblush

I have a 1986 chev 6.2 diesel that i have recently replaced four glow plugs on the passenger side due to them burning out. I dont know why they burned out. Anyway, the new ones i put in burned out after about 4 starts. The ones on the driverside are o.k.. What would cause all four to go bad at the same time? Thanks...Tom.

Yes they did swell. I was only able to get two out of the four out. Am going to get a glow plug puller to get the remaining two out. Any ideas as to why they swelled and burned out prematurely? I am thinking it was the autolite brand. I replaced the two with Delphi plugs. Thanks.....Tom

Generally if they burn out and the tips swell up, they have been on too long. It sounds like your controller may be malfuncting. If you don't want to have the new ones keep burning out, replade them with Kennedy's self regulating glows. They are a little more money, but they won't burn out from running too long. Time the glow plug wait light. If it runs more than about 6 to 8 seconds, the controller is staying on too long.

Hey fellas. Good to see some folks know more than I do..I have become completely frustrated on this 6.2 Diesel crap. The controller keeps blowing on mine, so I am guessing I have plenty of other probs. After replacing it, the Suburban will start, one time. After that, no go.. It is about 36 degrees here so I was wondering about the Temp Inhibit Switch.
Where can I find these Kennedy Glows? I did a quick search, and no find..
Also, if any of you have your bypass procedures..(Basically rewiring for manual control..) I would love to know how. I have no problem turning switches on and off...
All help is appreciated.

By the way, I am just a bit frustrated, because I work on this beast more than drive it. It is an 86 Burban.
Thanks..

I'm about to by a diesel 86 suburban. It has a new replacement motor with 38K on it. total mileage is 155K. He says he has no problems starting it, never has. I wonder if he actually got the 6.5 engine. Anyhow, my mechanic started to scare me away, and I've been reading a little bit here about it, but it appears to be a functional, reliable vehicle. I guess I'd want to drive it for a hour and try and hot start it... any other suggestions, advice, things to look for?

Thanks!
