I have a 1978 Crown Coach school bus with a Detroit Diesel 6L-71T engine in it that is totally out of commission. Instead of doing a rebuild, we want to swap the engine. One problem though: we can't find another DD 6L-71T engine, and we've been looking for months!

Which brings me to my question. Is there another engine, such as a Cummins, that is equal or close to equal in size and power that we could use instead? Perhaps Detroit Diesel still makes a similar engine under a different name?

I just can't find any helpful information on this topic at all!

Thank you!
