Looking for info on a detroit diesel in line 6cyl turbo. Am looking to purchase a motor from a guy who says its a detroit motor made by penske specially for UPS for their delivery vans. He says UPS decided to replace these units with 4.3L gas models. Any one have a clue what these motors might be and are their parts available for them? Appreciate any info. Note: I'm sure it is not a 671 as this would be too large an engine for a UPS van application. Thanks

The only diesel that I have seen installed in a UPS van is a small mercedes turbo diesel.The deal was made between detroit and ups after penske sold detroit to mercedes.Hope this helps

Have found out the mystery in line six is a vm638. It is a 3.8 liter rated at 160 hp made by an italian company V M Motori. Parts are not readily available. Motor was made in 1998. Thanks for the feedback

This VM engine you are talking about can I ask if it is still available and if so where?

I am looking for a 6 cylinder 3.6lt turbo engine complete running or for spares. Mine did not like filling up with water!winksadwinksmilesmile

VM Motori engines and parts are available through any licenced detroit diesel dealer. VM Motori was perchased by detroit desiel before dtroit was purchased by Daimler Chrysler. They are still the licenced dealer for the VM but they tend not to stalk much for parts have to order out of europe it is a reliable eng.

There is rumor that you will see these engines installed in jeeps in the 2005-2006 model year
