Having some trouble with Detroit.
Pulled a 6v71 off an old single double Well Service Rig and they wanted it replaced with a series 50 Detroit.
So I Bought a Used non runner that turned 360 off internet for $1800.00 (picked the worst possible one apparently.)
So, this engine had spun a bearing, and it seems to have went through every oil passage in the engine. Every bearing or bushing in the entire engine was shot.
Crankshaft was bad. Connecting rod bad. Turbo was locked up. Wiring harness was cut, injector harness was cut. Injector tips were rusted. Oil pan had a crack. Head had bent valves.

So I’ve got it 95% done, . Had the head remachined and rebuilt all new valves cups freeze plugs etc.
new crankshaft, new injectors, new connecting rods, then found out my block had electrolysis during the vatting process and had to buy another block. Vatted new block, repainted inside and out. New liners, new oil pump, new turbo, new water pump, new cam bearings, new seals, new main bearings, built new wire harness, bought new injector wire harness. I’m down to putting the idler gear back on so I can install the bull gear and I open up the brand new Idler gear bushing, press it into the gear, and it won’t fit over the adjustable 3 bolt hub. For shits and giggles I put it on my press and it took three tons to get it in, but obviously wouldn’t work. Found out they sold me some off brand. So I called M and D and gave them the part number off my bushing and told them I want OEM, they assure me they are shipping it. Shows up in a PAI box with my part number on the box, but I open the box and it’s the same bearing I just had, that does not fit over hub.

Next, the balance shaft bushings are shot. I press them out, call Freightliner (this engine came from a 95 FL106) they give me a part number for bushing kit for balance shaft. They don’t fit, way too small. I call them back and they give me a second kit part number(there was 2 factory options.) ordered it. Doesn’t fit.

I Google the part number off my bushings and it brings up nothing.

So I load the balance shaft assembly and idler gear with hub on a pallet and take it to United engines. I said,” find me the correct bushings for these, I’ll install myself.”

They call me back two days later, Detroit doesn’t sell these parts, you have to exchange the gear and balance shaft assembly for a reman. Total is $7400.00

So reliabilt, is taking reman cores, boring shit out and making oversize bushings that they refuse to sell to the public. The OEM Detroit part numbers on my bushings they installed in my 2017 balance shaft doesn’t even come up in the Detroit diesel parts system (Daimler.)

$7400.00….. the bushing kit (that’s for factory sizes) is $117.00 new, the idler bushing is $32.97.

I already have $12,000 in this engine, could’ve bought a reman for 10(mines basically new now though)

So, can someone tell me, is there anyone I can send these old bushings to that will make me new ones? Or send them drawings? Help would be greatly appreciated, I don’t want to spend another $7400.00 ( I did find these parts remanned on eBay for $3700, but I don’t want to spend $3700 either)
