I have a vermeer stump grinder with a 3cyl. diahatsu diesel. A I had a catastrophic failure of the turbo charger. Replaced it with a used turbo from a spare engine, same turbo. It worked very well for three or four weeks than it began to smoke again, black smoke. I checked the fan blade of the turbo and it had developed a lot of play so I got a brand new one. After replacing it, it still smokes when starting but clears up until I start grinding stumps, then heavy black smoke,. I don't know anything about diesel engines, not much more about gas engines and can't find a mechanic to work on it. There is a breather hose coming off the valve cover that unions with the air intake of the turbo that was all gunked up and the oil outlet tube at the crank case was also gunked up. You guys are very good recognizing symptoms and I need a little help. Any thoughts? Got a new turbo, new filters, new fuel. It runs and starts fine, but loses a little rpm when I'm grinding and heavy black smoke until I lift the cutting wheel away from the stump. confused
