Hello,
I have a Terex forklift that has a John Deere 4045 engine in it. It is a 1997 model. We just acquired this machine so I don't know much about it.

When I hit it with a load on the hydraulics it will most times die unless I am standing on the throttle. Even the response to the foot throttle is very poor. Sometimes the engine will rev up with normal pedal movement and sometimes I have to push way down on the throttle to get a response. It is not a linkage issue. The same thing happens if I move the throttle on the side of the injection pump. Does this engine have a true governor that is supposed to maintain engine speed when the load changes?

Is there something I can check on this? Or is it an internal problem in the injection pump? Any advice would be appreciated.
