Need more info. Example what size injectors are you running in the engine? Is the cylinder head a 2 valve or a 4 valve design. Removal of therocker coverwill be necessary if you are unsure of the answers.

I would also like to know how to get more power out of my 6-71 detroit. Mine has a 4 valve head and I was told that it has n55 injectors. The motor has a blower but no turbo. Please give me any suggestions. Thank You

If you have N55 injectors you can just change the injectors to get more hp. Now the tricky question. Is this an automotive engine? NO not because of the EPA, because if the smoke. Remove the rocker cover, look at the side of the injector where the little 'rack' comes out from the injector. Most likely it has a red label and has a label of N55. SImple as going from a 180 Hp engine to a 210 Hp engine just going to a N60 injector. Now the question. If you have an industrial engine you might get away with going to a N65 injector. Even use a C65 injector. [1 extra spray pattern hole in the C injector]. If this is in an automotive engine you might get cited for smokeing or smoke from the exhaust. Now the real clincher: AN engine with standard timing and N65 injectors will get better performance and Hp than an engine in the automotive application with 'A' timed gear train and N65 injectors. Changing the timing on the rear gears will open the exhaust valves quicker thereby allowing the clean air to 'purge' the exhaust gasses better. A good example of this is an application in a fire truck. Operating the fire truck in road operation with A timed gears will give best smoke control. BUT when the truck is sitting on location and the pump is operating, the Difference in Hp will NOT pump the same amount of water needed for pump certification. ALL fire pumps in fire trucks have a certain G/M and this is checked once in a while. Confusing but true. N65 injectors is the 'breakaway' point for changing the timing in the gear train.

GoneFishen,
Thank You, Your knowledge and good explanations are very much appreciated.

BUT..... I have new info on my engine.

My truck is a 1975 International Fleetstar 2070A. It is a logging truck with a log loader on it. I recently had a new transmission installed and had the mechanic run the rack while it was there. The mechanic said it was off a little and that a couple were loose. I noticed very little power increase with this fix. Also, it already has N65 injectors, not the n55's I thought it had. Can I go any bigger that the N65? Would a C65 or a bigger N series help? My truck does not smoke with the N65's. I won't get cited in northern Minnesota for smoke. What do you think? N70? N75? C65? N90?

The designation of C injectors was done for polution concerns. The spray nozzle on the tip has 1 extra hole for better atomization. Since your engine already has the N65 injectors you can try the N70 or N75. You will get a little smoke with these injectors. Overfueling the engine could be a concern. You could rebuilt the engine to a 'T' style but this gets expensive buying the turbo and exhaust setup. Pistons, blower seals, valves, valve seats, $$$$$$$$.
