I have a 2003 6-liter F-250 with 20,000 miles on it. A few months ago while driving uphill, I heard a popping sound from the turbo. It made the sound for about 1/4 mile and stopped. After that, I put gauges in for exhaust temp and boost pressure. A friend said it might be the egr valve, so I took it out and cleaned it. It has run fine since, even when towing a 30 ft trailer, until yesterday. I drove it a mile away, then the whole way home it made popping sounds from the turbo and the boost gauge dropped every time it popped. I'm wondering if it's a problem w/ the turbo or possibly the waste gate, or something else. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a waste gate problem..... ------------------------- One of the last 2 Stroke mechanics left. 44 years in the business and worked on everything from 53 series to 149 series. Winding it down now...time to move on.

thanks for the help. the strange thing is it does it maybe every 150 miles. most of the time it runs good. it is a intermittent problem
