I have a 87 international with the 6.9 diesel, it is dying.I am going to replace it but need info on which is better-the 6.9 or newer 7.3? Is the 6.9 sturdier? what can be done to gain more power for it? your answers will be appreciated.

Seems like with the Ford crowd that owns trucks with 6.9 & 7.3's like the 6.9's better. Hypermax and Banks makes a turbo kit for either one.

If I was you I'd drop a cummins in there. It might be a little more work with motor mounts and a new tranny but you'll be alot happier in the long long long run. Stop by a STERLING DEALER. That's where I traded my 94 International 699d series in on a STERLING. I didn't have anything done to it but in stock set up I received 5 miles better fuel economy faster top speed and 75% less down shifts. STERLING had a Cummins setup already in my truck. So they should be able to point you in the right direction. Good Luck!
