I've got a problem with my turbo engaging. recently went on a trip, the turbo haden't been kicking in at all, for quite some time, however on this trip, it did kick in a few times, maybe 5-6 times total (1200 mile trip ) but when it did engage, the rpm's were over 3000.
I've had this thing to a few different dealers, they say its right ! I know better.
Can anyone please help me out ?

that engine is rated up to 3600 RPM.. have you fitted a boost gauge?? what revs were you doing before the turbo kicked in?? was it on demand or just gradual increase of speed? what mileage has the engine done?? i would be looking at unbolting the turbo and get it checked don ------------------------- http://invertedvboats.741.com/

thanks for the reply.
the last dealer i went to said, i had proper boost, i'm not sure he really knew, as he didn't know what
pressure i needed when i asked.
As far as revs, i was pulling my camper, high profile 5th wheel. i would say i was demanding power.
milage is 52,000 , i've had this problem for 3 years.
the turbo was replaced 3 years ago, and has never worked properly.
I'm serious when I say, there is no one around here that knows how to fix it !
I need to find a mechanic that knows the 6.5
I'm located in north west Pa.

Hi,
has this problem been since the turbo was replaced???????? if it has there is the problem. is it the right turbo???
I have posted this on my website forum may get someone who knows a bit more.
The service manual i have is for a 6.2 and doesnt show anything for a turbo so cant help much with boost pressure.

does it have an intercooler?, is it blocked?. does this eng: have E.G.R.? are the inlet or exhaust
manifolds partially blocked?.with turbo outlet pipe disconnected from inlet man: or intercooler can you feel any boost pressure?. with turbo outlet pipe disconnected from turbo and eng: off, does the shaft spin?. does shaft spin with eng: running can you see? use a mirror . is the turbo wastegate siezed.

Hi.
I don't know if it is any help but i have some 6.5 ltr turbo diesels in my boat and i can tell that the charter pressure on theese engines must be between 60 and 170 Kpa. (app 0.6 - 1.7 bar). These engines has no "wastegate" to regulate the engine "suction pressure" it is done by a exhaust bypass valve ( bypasses some exhaustgas when the suctionpressure is too higt.) A pressure sensor on the intakemanifold tells the computer how high / low the suctionpressure is and the computer actuate an airactuator to the bypassvalve.
I think that your problem can be found around in this system.
A GM workshop can temp. put on a "mousetrap" on your engine and mesure the suction pressure during driving, and maybe you will see a drop in suctionpressure now and then.

Do not try to block the exhaust bypassvalve mechanical in attemp to raise or stabilize your suctionpressure!!! it can destroy your pistons and bearings.
