2000 international 4700 flatbed tow truck. I was having trouble on cold start it would sometimes not build oil pressure fast enough and the oil/water light on the dash would come on, I would shut it off and re-start it all would be fine. Then i came in and started it and it ran about about ten seconds and died, never has re-started. I have no oil pressure while cranking. I removed oil pick up tube and inspected, found no visible cracks. I replaced IPR valve, high pressure oil pump, and main engine oil pump behind ballancer.

I still have no oil pressure while cranking. I seen a guy say on another post in here something about replacing oil pump and front cover. Does something go wrong in the front cover to cause no oil pressure?

If the back half of the front cover (behind the oil pump) is sratched or even looks worn. you can still have no oil psi with a new pump.

When this occurs did you inspect at the throttle sensor if there is a five volts, now if there is five volts
at the throttle electrical connector replace the sensor, but if there is no five volt at the electrical connector install a overlay harness.

Hey guy's! Here are a few things to look at if you have no oil pressure during cranking at start up. 1st you have to have base engine oil pressure to get the engine to start. 2nd you can pull the oil temp sensor out on the left side of the rear section of the front cover(2 wire white sensor) the oil level should be up and flow out the sensor hole. If there is no oil in this area this means that the HP oil pump has no oil to fire the engine. If this the case the oil regulator that is located behind the oil filter housing is stuck open and you will not build any oil pressure, which will cause a no start issue. 3rd if there is oil in the sensor location, then you have a bad oil pump, which is located behind the front harmonic balancer. If you attempt the repair you will need to heat up the center of the harmonic balance(the shaft hole) to get to slide the balancer back on. I hope all this info helps!

Hey Skidd88, I've the same problem with my 97' International 4900 DT466E. No oil pressure while cranking. This only occurs after the truck sits overnight. I removed the oil filter housing and looked at the regulator. Just to be clear, the regulator is IN the housing correct? How do I tell if it is possibly stuck open? I'm afraid my problem may be the oil pump, and or pressure relief valve, from all I've read of other issues people are having. I pulled the temp sensor and didn't have oil running out. By your post I figured it would be the regulator at the filter. Now I'm uncertain. Any insight would be great.
