Well, most of the information you find online are the manufacturers or suppliers of such systems, so most of them are very biased. You can inject any kind of fuel in a diesel engine through the intake, you can buy alcohol injection systems, diesel and LP gas/propane. They are all basically the same design and workings.

With a branded and reliable pump such as a Laing pump, the number of problems and outages will be minimal. The insulin pump involves a lot of maintenance issues such as change of batteries, infusion sets, insulin vials, etc to prevent the onset of infection at the site of insertion.

Pumps deliver insulin in one of two ways. One, is continuous, which is referred to as the basal rate. The Bosch injection pumps are basically devices that are used for pumping fuel into cylinders of an engine, mostly, a diesel engine or a gasoline one.

The best way to start this explanation is to quote an e-mail that I found on the corporate Cummins website many years ago. “The Bosch VP44 has not been as reliable as we had hoped”. We have dismantled many pumps to figure them out and diagnose what failed and what the cause AND SOLUTION is for the failure. We think you might like to hear about our findings.

If that's a VE type pump then two things could be going wrong. #

1) There is air still sucking in and causing the pump to lose pressure. Low pressure will cause hard delivery.
2) Inside the pump is a section called the transfer pump. This actually sucks the fuel from the tank into the pump. It creates pressure inside the pump and enables injection. If the transfer pump has dirt it may cause it to jam and result in a low amount of fuel being pumped from the tank.

Since your filter had loads of dirt you may find dirt or contaminated fuel has entered into the pump. It needs to be serviced and calibrated with new seals and gaskets. Any leaks would allow air to suck into the pump causing similar problems to what you've exlained.

After serviving the pump, have the tank drained and cleaned to remove any contaminated fuel that will quickly block up the filters. Also ensure there is a water trap and it never overflows. Water will damage fuel injection parts rapidly. The injector pressure should also be reset and nozzles replaced if they are pitted.
