Is it ok to install an ether start on a cat 3116? It has a manifold heater but I dont think it has glow plugs. And if its possible where would I put the ether injection nozzel?

No its not ok.

The intake heater is capable of igniting ether when it is sprayed into the intake system.

Do not install either into that engine. The Intake manifold will blow on you. You can remove the intake heater solenoid and hot wire for the solenoid but i do not recommend it. The intake heater should be enough to start this engine, if you are having problems with this engine getting started, it sounds to me you have another problem . 3116 are notorious for there injectors seating in the cyl head, if not seated correctly, or fuel adjustments off etc. It will cause a Hard start. I do not recommend either though it can be done .

Can be expensive AND dangerous. An Edsel I had in my youth (both of us always broke)
got the benefits of accumulated deposits in the intake manifold over several winter months.
You can figure out the rest, intake manifold AND hood 100 feet beside the road in the
snow 10 minutes after after pulling out of the driveway.

Which brings me to a supplementary question.

My Cat-426 has ether and of course it must be applied sparingly and only while the
engine is cranking good. Even then you can tell it's very close to knocking. The other
day I swapped out the cannister but the new one isn't working, the solenoid might not
be triggering it. So I got going with one of these newer Motomaster QuickStart
spray cans. The startup is MUCH smoother and I wonder if such might be available
in standard onboard cannister sizes. They contain ethyl ether, aliphatic acid and carbon
diaoxide. I know one mechanic uses just brake parts-cleaner.

I'm concerned about explosive deposits, do they come from ether or from other
addidives?
